Total Trainer Restoring Range of Motion / (ADL)s

Restoring our range of motion to previous heights can seem a high mountain to climb, but the Total Trainer is there every step of the way.

How well we perform ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) is a gauge of our overall capacity for taking care of ourselves without outside assistance. Completing ADLs can become a challenging task, whether happening suddenly due to an injury or progressively on account of old age. Basic activities that we formerly took for granted, such as eating, dressing, and the other aspects of self-care that constitute ADLs, can become a cause for discouragement as it becomes difficult to simply complete them.

The early stages of these disabilities can be taken as a sign that outside help is needed, whether in the form of a physical/occupational therapist or a nursing home. But many are unwilling to resign themselves to that sort of dependence, and instead seek out other methods to stave off declining mobility. Getting help from a physical therapist or enrolling in a nursing home need not be the first steps taken once these issues are identified.

Those with an independent streak have the option of seeking home workouts that give an alternative to inactivity and guard against muscle atrophy. Whether the debilitation is temporary or age-related, finding equipment to utilize gravity resistance for working muscles can do wonders for arresting strength loss and regaining the range of motion we are accustomed to. Staying sedentary is not going to push back against the effects that limit our ability to do ADLs.

The Total Trainer home gym is the ideal equipment for turning back activity-reducing disabilities brought on by aging or injury. Making a place in your home for the Total Trainer provides daily opportunities to keep the body up to the task of engaging in around-the-home chores. Adding some full body workouts to get the blood circulating and muscles working once again will, over time, have a substantial impact in reversing declines in physical health. Gaining bulging muscles and rippling biceps does not need to be the motivation behind working with a Total Trainer: its functionality extends well beyond supplying eye-popping strength gains.

This machine’s low impact, gravity resistance exercises go easy on joints, and they are particularly beneficial for those suffering with arthritis. Once you feel competent exercising on the Total Trainer, it will be like having a physical therapist whose presence is constant. The plane of movement on the Total Trainer lets you keep a range of motion not defined by jerky, inconsistent movements: you will be able to lift and stretch with exact motions which produce confidence the lift is being done properly.

The Pilates Resistance Bands found on the Total Trainer Pilates System models are great for providing resistance during a range of exercises that restore flexibility to joints. Surprisingly, yoga and Pilates exercises are excellent routines for individuals struggling with arthritis and limits on their range of motion; many such regimens lend themselves to completion on a Total Trainer Pilates System.

If aches and pains plague your back and arms each time ADLs are attempted, try some light exercises on the Total Trainer to restore your body’s strength. Try a pull-up routine with a resistance level set to 1 or 2; this harnesses 6 to 12% (respectively) of your body weight to be pulled up against while lying on the glide board. Performing pull-ups will see to it that you keep the upper body active while not excessively straining or pushing it. The Total Trainer home gym allows users to begin the process of tearing down stumbling blocks to performance of ADLs without so much as a second thought.

Restoring our range of motion to previous heights can seem a high mountain to climb, but the Total Trainer is there every step of the way. Customization ensures the level of our workouts’ difficulty never exceeds what we can handle, seeing to it that the day arrives when ADLs are made a breeze once again.
